There are many facts of the Franco dictatorship that are unfortunately unknown to a large part of Spanish society. If I knew them, I highly doubt that I would be able to vote for certain political forces that do not condemn Francoism. Committed and independently working historians are there to correct this deficit, although many times their work is not only not supported by the media, but is boycotted. Today I will refer to a set of activities developed in this dark time, such as the Missions of the Catholic Church . Very important activities in supporting and legitimizing the dictatorship. My first knowledge of them was thanks to the book by Fernando Sanz Ferreruela from the University of Zaragoza, Catholicism and cinema in Spain (-). Going deeper into the topic, I came across the article by María Silvia López Gallego, from the University of Valladolid, The difficult relationship between the Church and the Spanish union organization during the first Franco regime .
The creation of the ecclesiastical council of unions (-). I have also consulted the now classic book by William J. Callaham, The Catholic Church in Spain (-). And the article by Francisco Bernal García from the University of Seville, titled Restoring the C Level Executive List people of God in Francoist Spain. The missions of the Ecclesiastical Advisory of Unions, - And accessible on the Internet. A very complete description of the Missions of the Catholic Church is from the splendid article and for me an authentic discovery by Francisco Bernal, from whom I take the license to expose the fundamental aspects, with some other contributions from the cited bibliography. I congratulate him on his work and I believe that he is worth being known by Spanish society.
The Catholic Church in Spain has had and continues to have great power at a political, economic, cultural, social, and, of course, religious level. Before starting the description, I want to make a reflection. The Catholic Church in Spain has had and continues to have great power at a political, economic, cultural, social, and, of course, religious level. Montesquieu said “that power corrupts and if power is absolute, it corrupts absolutely.” The Catholic Church has had and continues to have so much power, that perhaps it has come to internalize that it had and “has” full impunity to commit authentic aberrations, such as sexual abuse of children . The political class, the justice system, the media and society as a whole are also responsible for the fact that this impunity is still maintained today. The power of the Church is great. Therefore, it is untouchable.
